General Update and Week 2 Email Correction

Hello, friends and family.

First, thank you all so much for subscribing to Elder Hays's email updates. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support you have provided Elder Hays and our entire family.

I set up this site for a few reasons:

  1. I wanted to make it easier to manage an email list and allow people to subscribe and unsubscribe to these updates.
  2. I wanted to have a searchable archive of all of Elder Hays's emails. I hope he will be able to use this site in the future to look back and reflect on his mission. As well as share it with his future family.
  3. I wanted people to be able to comment on his posts. If you log in to the website with your subscribed email, you can post a comment to an update.
  4. I wanted to be able to make the emails look pretty.
  5. I'm a geeky technologist and plain old email feels too 1990s for me :)

So, with this came some technical challenges that I did not anticipate.  The software I'm using is new to me, it's self-hosted, and integrated with an email provider that can handle bulk messages.  I ran in to some unhelpful error messages trying to send out our first mass mail but was able to get it resolved this morning.

In my haste to get Elder Hays's message out to you quickly, I managed to accidently delete a portion of his update.  In case you were wondering no, Elder Hays didn't make some bizarre reference to Pokémon that didn't make sense.  Dad just munged it up :).

This is the corrected portion highlighted in bold that I wanted you to see:

Elder Mendenhall is the perfect person for me to be with. He's super into Pokémon, especially the cards, he loves music, guitar, and other nerd stuff like Star Wars and Marvel.

Weekly Mission Email 2 - Flin Flon Edition
The last week has been incredible. I’m in Flin Flon!! In case you haven’t already heard me talk about it, I’ve wanted to visit Flin Flon for ages. Me and my friends have joked about coming here for years, and here I am! It’s a dream come true. It’s funny,

Thanks again!  We love you all!

-Fred
