Week 4 - Pokémon Cards and Friends in Jail??

Hey everyone! Remember how I said I was a little sick at the end of my last email? Well, Unfortunately it got worse and I developed a fever. So we ended up staying home all day Tuesday, and had a little bit of a half day on Wednesday. But by Thursday, the fever was gone and I was back up and serving! When I'm not sick, our days are super busy. We have an app we use for planning our day, and it has a daily calendar that looks a lot like Google Calendar. When planning our day, there's never any blank space. We're constantly doing something. It's exhausting, but I love it! We're always doing good things like walking dogs for the animal shelter (which was super fun, the dogs were super friendly), helping at the food bank, planning and teaching lessons, practicing lessons and doing roleplays with other missionaries via zoom, reaching out to people who've had lessons and might want to learn more, hosting game nights, making posts on Facebook, and filming/editing videos to post on Facebook! We have so much fun up here in Flin Flon! We haven't actually started doing game nights yet, as we are traveling back down to Winnipeg this weekend for zone conference. We made a Facebook post about them, then realized this and quickly deleted the Facebook post. But we'll be starting them up when we get back.

Elder Mendenhall building a new dark type Pokémon deck

On the topic of game nights, Elder Mendenhall and I have a passion for Pokémon Trading Card Game. It's a blast. Something that I noticed was that the Pokémon card section at Walmart is always very dry. I was very lucky to get the deck that I did, because they're all out of stock now. There was around 7 decks there, but they're all gone now. This got me thinking, clearly, we're not the only people here buying Pokémon cards. If we're not the only ones buying Pokémon cards, then there must be other people who'd enjoy playing Pokémon. So, that gave me the idea, hear me out on this one, what if we had a Pokémon TCG Tournament! We'd open and end it with a spiritual thought of course, and it'd be a great opportunity to find and meet people who have similar interests as me and Elder Mendenhall! There's more to this story though. We were at Walmart again on Friday, to get some Dr. Pepper as a pick-me-up, and I felt like we should check the Pokémon section again. While we were there, someone else came to look at the cards. We talked to him, and he was a really nice guy! He was actually looking at the Magic the Gathering cards, right next to the Pokémon cards, but he has a son that's into Pokémon cards! We asked him a little about Magic, and how one would get started with Magic the Gathering, and apparently, there's an event in town here called "culture days", every weekend starting this weekend till late October, and he's hosting a Magic the Gathering tournament at it this weekend! We'd love to attend his tournament, but we'll be out of town this weekend. BUT, he gave us the contact info for the person in charge of culture days, and we might be able to host our own culture days event! Maybe a Pokémon tournament!! Super super cool opportunity to meet lots of new people. (We did get permission from our mission leaders to host said Pokémon tournament)

ALSO, there's a nice guy named Maverick who is in jail, and would like to meet with us! We talked with him on the phone, and he sounds really nice. He's actually trying to turn his life around, and has a family member in the church. He's seen how put together they are, and wants to learn more! We're trying to set up in person visits with him, but it is kinda difficult since ya know, he's in jail. No idea how he ended up in jail, but he sounds way too nice to do anything serious. Plus, the atonement is infinite and eternal. Whatever he did, I can already tell he's going to turn away from it and do good things when he gets out in a month or two.

Another thing we did today, is we went to the town hall and saw the copy of "The Sunless City" that inspired the name of the town! Eventually I need to buy my own copy of the book and give it a read. I also bought Flin Flonopoly. I'm gonna copy another Elder who came here and have every companion I get on the mission sign it :3

Last little thing, I made another post that talks about the Pokémon cards I got in a little more depth. I thought it'd be fun, but I put it as a separate post since this one is already pretty long, and not everyone is as interested in Pokémon as I am lol. Here's  a fancy little button that'll send you straight to that post if you're interested :)

Pokémon TCG pt1 - The Perfect Pokémon
ah yes… Pokémon Trading Card Game… my new obsession. I thought it’d be fun to make a little page here to catalog the cards I get, and the decks I build. DON’T WORRY! I have a plan to ensure that I don’t spend too much money on Pokémon cards. I
